Frοm thе last hammock video, gοt ѕοmе nеw gear, mainly a mummy sleeping bag аnd a space blanket tο try out. Thіѕ video іѕ mainly fοr newbies whο аrе starting tο gеt іntο winter camping οr іntο hammock camping аnd аrе looking аt іdеаѕ οr learning frοm mу mistakes
Bаd editing іn thіѕ video, hοwеνеr ѕοmе things tο learn… 1. Getting іntο a hammock via a mummy sleeping bag іѕ hard. Bυt gets easier. 2. Space blanket didn’t work out аѕ expected. 3. I skipped thе liner, ѕіnсе I hаd enough issues trying tο gеt іn thе hammock. I didn’t υѕе thе tarp, аnd thе conditions wеrе -3C wіth light winds. I felt thе сοld around mу shoulders аnd waist area. Thе space blanket didn’t work аѕ I thουght іt wουld. I mіght resort back tο using thе therma rest tο insulate myself frοm thе bottom.

HENNESSY HAMMOCK I have one with the super shelter sepnt quite a bit but defently worth it i use a 20 degree sleeping bag with a fleese liner so basicly a 10 degree and sleept great in november up hear in montana it got down under 0 degrees F hammocks are defently the way to go
TRY IT THIS WAY! The way I am about to suggest will ALWAYS be warmer than a tent.
You have to SURROUND the hammock with the sleeping bag. Feed the the hammock in through the opening, then out the bottom zipper (most mummy bags will have this option). Basically you string it THROUGH the sleeping bag. This way, you will not need a pad because the sleeping bag WILL BLOCK the wind and you will get the maximum warmth from your bag BECAUSE THERE IS NO COMPRESSION OF THE FILL. Promise you’ll like it.
that looks so comfy
@fxdrdnme Okay, with some of the Brits around I am not sure.
cheers
@teb0atoz Haha I was making a joke. =P
@fxdrdnme Hummm. . . . not sure about were your from but most bear are asleep in the winter. LOL.
I camped in YellowStone once and we just threw our sleeping bags on the ground next to a snow pile. When we woke in the morning there were fresh bear tracks down the middle of the pile of snow. People just seem to think bears like to eat them so much, LOL.
Cheers
Use a hammock in the winter and you become an elevated bear popsicle.
great post thanks man
@Tmas1833 i’m gonna have to agree with you on that one.
I’m going to stick to my 2 man tent and nice sleeping pad for my winter backpacking. I don’t mind the extra weight its worth not waking in the night with night shivers. Snow is a great insulator so it just doesn’t seem logically to take a hammock.
What kind weight we talken here?
Good job, hey try a space blanket over your bag when wind comes up it workes well. I had to vent once or twice. Be carfull not to build up condensation. Have a look at my vids. Keep on getting out there. *****
@cdltpx I have sewn a small loop of webbing at the foot end which ties to a cord in the foot of the hammock
@gardogg65 Yes they are and I do prefer them. Only problem is they heavy in comparatively. Still I like to carry one.
Nobody has a sense of humor these days. Everyone so serious. Must be the shit ass economy.
Thats how you camp like a dumbass
lol
What a bunch of pussies. I use a 59 cent tarp cut into two peices, suspend it from two parked semi trucks. one to lay on one to cover up the makeshift sleeping bag. For the make shift sleeping bag I line the tarp with straw/hay, then cover the hay with dark green salvation army blanket that itches and scratches terribly. Then I use a an old strip of RV insulation for my blanket that makes me break out in Welts and hives. Thats how you hammock and camp like a man. Non of this fancy stuff:X
When I go, I use the military two piece canvas tent, line it with a tarp and use a wool blanket, Its cheap, Its effective. I use the halves of tent as a hammock. They are strong enough with some paracord. Just tryin to save you guys some money

I tried that space blanket. . . its hard and noisy.
speak closer to the mic please.
Wool blankets are supposed to be super warm I am thinking a couple of them and you don’t have to buy the expensive and bulky sleeping bag. . . plus a wool blanket can be worn as a poncho during hiking.
space blanket doesn’t breathe so all your moisture gets trapped inside.
Try this poke a small hole in the base of the sleeping bag and pull the bottom of the hammock through. This way the hammock and the mummy are working in tandum. Hop into the hammock then slide the mummy over you like a snake skin. Did this with my daughters hammock and a regular sleeping bag it worked well for her. Would this also allow moisture a place to exit?
i second that
