If you are planning to go trekking or hiking for more than a day, it is time to buy a good sleeping bag. A sleeping bag is just a bag that you can carry easily on your back and use to sleep in at night. There are a number of sleeping bags flooding the market these days. There are bags of different color, shape, size and brand names. Some of the bags are so big that two people can easily get into it. Most of the bags have either the mummy style or the rectangular style or tapering style. When you buy a sleeping bag, check the material used to do the filling in them. Generally, cotton, fiber, polyester and down are used to fill the sleeping bags. Out of all these, down is the best material for a filling since it provides additional warmth. A down sleeping bag will be more suitable for you if you are planning to use it in a very cold place. The down sleeping bags are lighter than other sleeping bags. So it is easy to roll them up into a small compact packs. This saves space for other items needed for your trip. The most admirable quality of a down sleeping bag is that it gives more warmth than bags filled with any other material. It is because soft down can make a better insulation against cold and prevents your heat from escaping from the bag. Another advantage of the down sleeping bag is its durability. If proper care is taken a down feather sleeping bag can last for many years. A down sleeping bag can be reconditioned in a dryer whereas sleeping bags filled with other materials cannot be reconditioned. Once they lose their original quality, it is lost for ever in the case of bags filled with other filling materials. There are some disadvantages also for a down sleeping bag. Firstly, these bags are so delicate that they fail to insulate you against cold if the sleeping bag gets wet. This problem can easily be overcome if people are cautious enough to keep the sleeping bag dry always. The next disadvantage of a down sleeping bag is that it is costlier than other sleeping bags filled with cotton or polyester. If money is not a constraint for you, surely a down sleeping bag will be the best for your next trekking or hiking.
