Q: where did you pick up the Red Cross radio. . .

  2. Hoffa3381 says:

Your 99% ahead of most of society getting prepaid. Suggestion? Reduce the size of some of your gear & most of all reduce the carry weight. I had to do this myself after a day hike with my pack. A plus was with more free room & less weight I’m able to carry a few more necessary items. . . Good luck on your Go Bag!

@Takastrike- your right, whieght defanetly does mater and each does weigh quite a bit.
ive recently went on a long hike, and the wiet was to much. I am 13, so the weitght I was carrying did matter for me, but affter woreds i reallised i should trade out some things for others. for an example 4 day chlothes suply, but i only whore 2 day suply over 4 days, and i never hade enofe food; so i understand you tradeing thing around. please update your vid!! :P

One of the things I’ve heard is if it doesn’t have more than 2 or 3 uses than ditch it. I personally would leave out the SAS manual and replace it with survival playing cards. I’m going to have to watch it again

  5. Takastrike says:

@XDarkBlue08 Yeah, after long test-hikes I’ve come to appreciate the weight issue. Maybe I’ll modularize it with compression sacks or something – general stuff always there, one for survival, one for tactical, one for overnight, one for camping, one for food, etc. Always working to improve the concept.

@outdoorshalfpro I actually have a new pack and have made a number of modifications to what I carry – after test hiking I’ve really come to appreciate the trade-off of more stuff = more strain to carry. I can lug it for the 5 or 10 miles I’ve tested with, but either as I am or as the bag weight is currently I’m pretty sure I’d have problems with all-day every-day. Looking for more weight-efficient alternatives for much of it, like maybe . 22LR instead of the . 40 and . 45.

you should get a folding shovle and a hachet, the your kit is complete!

I just love the way your so organized and detailed on everything. . . . . . . Love it!!!! one Q. . . how is the red cross hand charging radio light working for you??? Looks like a great product??? once again a great vid thanks for sharing, gave me some ideas for my bag. . . . Keep em coming!!!

  9. XDarkBlue08 says:

Honestly, you have too much stuff. But I did get a few ideas.
I would leave out the laptop.

@pcxmac11 I do need to get a good poncho or rain suit for it – I realized this after Wilderness First Responder training. The umbrella is no longer a part of the new BOB. Electric shaver is, but more because it also fills the role of overnight bag. I should probably get a good bladed razor for it as well. Should also get a small bar of soap – good idea, don’t know why I overlooked that one. As for P-cord – that’s always on me anyway. . . but I should keep another 100ft in there anyway.

  11. pcxmac11 says:

a poncho with some 550 chord will give you more shade than an umbrella :) Also the electric shaver might not be a realistic item. Soap + an regular shaver that accepts the thin blades from a cartridge are fairly good.

@hellstorm702 I found this backpack at a yard sale for $5. At that price for a $100 bag I wasn’t feeling very picky. However, I did just today buy a Kelty Super Tioga 6000 – it’s grey and red (had limited choices on color) but the red is at least a dark burgandy instead of bright red for the old bag so it’s not as visible. The Kelty is awesome, very happy with it so far. Will put up a new BOB video when I have the time.

I am almost done completing my bug out bag as well, need a tent which I am still researching, probably get a thermarest pad, and one of the recon sleeping bags, either a recon 3 or 4 bag. I like your set up though, only thing is why choose a bag with a bright color?

Hey, thanks for posting. Lithium batteries have a longer shelf life, last longer and are lighter. Might be able to cut down some battery weight with those although they are expensive. I’ve considered getting a Crossman 1377C instead of the Marlin Papoose for small game b/c in a disaster, (ie Katrinia) firearms were confiscated. They probably won’t take a “toy” but that “toy” in the right hands can take small game. Plus a tin of 500 pellets cheap and light.

  15. Takastrike says:

@urkingod Not exactly, the car has its own car kit in the trunk.

  16. urkingod says:

Would you keep the bag each one for the house and one for the car ?

  17. Takastrike says:

Oh, and if you have any specific suggestions for lighter replacements that serve the same purpose equally or better, please let me know, those kind of comments really help some times. As an example, the umbrella is going to get removed in place of other rain gear, I just can’t justify using up a hand for it during bad weather.

  18. Takastrike says:

The bag is definitely in development. I just finished WFR training and after hurting my back (ironically from applying traction for a femur splint, not from carrying the bag) I ended up removing the non-essentials as they applied to the training. There’s stuff I need and don’t have, there’s stuff that can be reduced, minimized and/or removed and then there are items that serve functions that can be replaced with lighter, more efficient items. It will probably always have room for improvement.

  19. lavelliINC says:

im not trying to be an ass but. . . realistically you wont need most of that except the food. And even that probably wont be needed in a lot of situations it would be provided to you. During natural disasters shelters are up and ready within a day or so that takes care of shelter and water at very least. And if its something much worse where shelters cannot be provided ever. . (very low chance) you are pretty much screwed no matter how much food you have it will run out eventually.

  20. Takastrike says:

I haven’t looked recently, I’ve had to prioritize my spending – currently being put into medical training and car repairs. It’s on my ‘to buy’ list but there are a few things above it.

  21. 88arau says:

@Takastrike: I ordered the Papoose from my local gun shop like a week ago, should be here any day now. I cant wait to take it backpacking with me. Took me forever to find one though, searched every local gun shop but none of their distributors had it available. Are you having trouble finding one?

  22. Takastrike says:

Well. . . I could rename it to that. . . if you’re in a giving mood. Hell, give me a Marlin Papoose and I’ll name the video whatever you want. ^_^

  23. 88arau says:

So you basically need all the essentials. . . this video should have been titled: “My wishlist for Christmas”.

  24. Takastrike says:

Going from memory I believe it’s about 75 lbs with 2x water bottles and about 90 lbs with all 6 of the 1. 5 L bottles. This is approximate but should be +- 8 lbs actual. Admittedly I’ve only done my hiking with the two bottle config, need a different bag for more water to center the weight closer to my center of gravity instead of pulling me backwards. Work in progress.

  25. SafeArmsReview says:

    Thanks for posting –

I was wondering how much does it weigh?

    Just curious,
