you should definitely put it in a box to prevent it from getting damaged. you can either use your own box and send it Parcel Post, or use a flat rate shipping box from the USPS and send it Priority Mail – which is only about $2 more than parcel post (on average), and a whole lot easier.

Take it to a UPS store and they will pack and ship it for you.

A sleeping bag is tough, and doesn’t need any padding. The best thing would be to put it in a cardboard box – that’s how our sleeping bags came when we ordered them from a regular company.

If you haven’t listed yet, you might want to consider selling it on Craigslist or some other local venue. The postage on a low-end used sleeping bag is close to the price of the bag itself, and I’m not sure how many people would be interested for that reason.

Wrap it in plastic bag in case of water damage during transportation. Then put it in a cardboard box. I definitely won’t wrap it with something without a box. Go to a shipping company or grocery store to find a cardboard box that would fit the item. Use packaging peanuts or a few layers of crumpled paper to fill the void and stabilize the item during shipment. Extra wrapping or crumpled paper in areas where people cut open the box. People may stick their cutting knife too deep and accidentally damage the item. The heavier the item, the more support it is going to need. You may crumple up some newspaper for light weight item or use heavy duty paper for items that need more protection.
