I have and it is not an easy task. . . you must stay with them if there are any cliffs or fast rivers close as I find they can not resist climbing a cliff or falling in the river. . . . . . . . . make it interesting by suspending a tarp and sleep out under the stars with them (so they wont be afraid). . and they will have fun just playing in the woods. . . it’s better if they explore with out being told how to, but also find chores for them to do like look for fire wood and make up their sleeping bags and wash up in the cold river (just their faces and hands). . . . and of course there will be scrapes, cuts and bruises so you have to plat Doctor too. . . as well as camp cook and survival expert !. . . . . . . . . it is fun though. . take another adult. . for back up !. . . LOLOL!

Hi. . . . It all depends on you and your little kiddiekins whether you have a pleasant and enjoyable adventure or a miserable rotten ‘living outside’ time.
Our two girls were on the Alps before they could walk. They took some of their first tottering steps on Alpine grass and rock They loved it.
We camped out some nights but most nights we stayed in mountain huts where the sleeping arrangement in the higher and therefore simpler huts is a single shelf 7 feet deep where you find a space for the sleeping bag and dive on, everybody together. . . Germans, French, Italians, Norwegians, people from anywhere in the world.
I’m assuming from here on you are in Norfolk as in the Broads and Kings Lynn, in UK. There are a few Norfolks around, USA, Canada, Australia etc. A lot of UK Qs end up on the USA site even when they are entered from Y! UK and Ireland.
Wild camping is great fun but in most of England it isn’t actually legal. However there are lots of places where you c-o-u-l-d go wild camping for a night or two and nobody would know.
Even better are the tiny sites listed in the Camping and Caravanning Club book. . . 1350 of them.
    Link on here. . http://uk. answers. yahoo. com/question/index;_ylt=Ar3×7aDWh53qKumS1nk. NLUhBgx. ;_ylv=3?qid=20100730150825AAEN87h&show=7#profile-info-MEEgTVf3aa . . . . .
They are sites where the landowner allows a few tents or a caravan or two to stay for a while. They normally don’t have facilities like the big camps but they are cheap. . . . just a pitching fee.
You could find any of a thousand places to stay for the night and then move on so you don’t look obvious, and enjoy free camping with the little ones but there are quite a few of the C&CC sites which may be a better idea if you haven’t got a lot of camping experience.
Find the book in WH Smith or other bookshops.
In north Norfolk near Holt there is a lovely place called Kelling Heath. It’s a camping ground that host’s star parties twice a year in spring and autumn. If you get the chance have a look in. It’s a lovely place to camp with woodland all around and so pleasant being there camping under the trees.
    http://www. starparty. org/as2009. html . . . . .
In tents it’s worse than a teenager’s bedroom. You have to keep everything tucked away and tidy or you can’t move.
A three person tent has space for three sleeping bags on the floor and a little bit left over. It isn’t actually much use for three people to stay in as a living tent. . . there’s not enough room.
So have a look at some tents in Millets or Cotswold Outdoor where they sometimes have them set up inside the shop, or just wander round a local campsite. You don’t have to pay to go in, only to stay there.
Next thing is sleeping bags. The mummy style is best and warmest. You can get small ones for children or tuck a full size under at the foot end to make it shorter.
The rectangular ones are really for caravans not tents but one inside another works well and a double one fill fit two kiddies in if they want to sleep together.
You can get inflatable pillows and inflatable beds if the ground doesn’t sound too inviting and a foot bellows to blow them up with.
There will be plenty of exploring and games to make up but a few things from home obviously are needed like favourite teddy bears and a couple of balls or some skittle rings and other easy playing things.
Here are some links to camping questions in case there’s anything of use. The navigation one is a joy for youngsters who like finding out magic things about the world and it can help them to feel like real explorers.
Have a great time and keep warm and dry. Otherwise just laugh if you get caught in a bad squall. When you laugh the little ones can laugh. Keep everything fun.
Here’s a laugh to start with. . . not for the poor souls who were in it, or expected to be.

Children, adventure, and camping. . . . beautiful way to live.

The legal side, and a non-legal solution. Entirely at your risk but Norfolk is one of the better counties.

Hehe, the cooking. . . . . . . yummy. . . dont read the jungle bit on the link in it if you don’t have a cast iron stomach but the rest of it is all good cooking.

How to use nature to find your way and answer some of the awkward questions. Fun when they ask those questions that adults couldn’t think up isn’t it?
Blind them with science, haha. . . in kiddie talk.

If you’ve still got time to go camping, have a load of fun.

I have. Started the youngsters out early in life, My dad was a Scouter and brought me up in it and I my sons and daughters. Most of the camping I do is primitive style I don’t care much for the campground crowd and don’t like the noise. If your in Norfolk Virgina then there are a lot of national forests around you where you can camp in dispersed areas away from the crowd and hike in campsites that have fewer folks and no rv crowds. Here is a link with tons of expert advice and equipment for the wilderness camper,
