Right from the pre-historic age to the present day, furniture is an integral part of human life. Any movable object that can be used to sit or relax or even store can be collectively called furniture. The cave men used rocks and stones to meet the purpose. Furniture was once meant only for meeting the requirements and serving the purpose. However with the passage of time, the waves of innovation and fashion conquered this industry too. People started looking for aesthetically pleasing design than the mere four-legged rectangular cot or dining tables. With the increasing demand for the attractive, they were reformed as decorative art and designer products.
A wide variety is available in the market. The most commonly used ones include knoll sofa, wardrobes, chest, bedroom set, cupboards, dinette, couch, bean bag, table, door, storage walls, etc. Depending upon the purpose, it can be grouped as seating, storage, surface, sets, sleeping furniture, etc. Choosing from the wide variety is a herculean task, and manufacturers are competing hard to come up with the best and appealing ones.
Variety of furniture styles are available in the market. Indian, Mexican, Roman, French designs, Italian designer, etc are some to be enlisted. If you are looking for handy and delicate, French and Italian are the apt ones. Although, the Mexican and Indian’s is slightly bulky, they give a majestic look. On the other hand, Roman’s are sleek, smart and royal. Glass is the contemporary material used for making stylish designer furniture. Be it a coffee table or a small dinette, you will be spellbound with the sleek and slender glass beauties. Moreover the glass can be used in any living space irrespective of the interior colours or settings. Glass looks equally good and serene in a bright red portico as well as subtle living rooms.
Antique type is yet another fabulous choice. Though, they are expensive, the elegance and rarity makes them stand out ahead of others. They have the capability to reflect the status and lifestyle of its possessors, hence the antique types are treasured ones. Tallboys and highboys are the much-wanted pieces in the antique variety. The brass handles and lustrous mahogany furnish makes them gain admirations from all the viewers. Along with the majestic antique, the evergreen”grandfathers clock” spices up the looks of your living space.
Apart from looks, there are some more aspects to be taken into consideration when purchasing the best one. The most primary aspect is the comfort level. No matter how pleasing or attractive the piece is, it is better not to purchase it if it is uncomfortable. Moreover while buying chairs, one has to be careful to buy soft cushioned ones with vertical backrests. As the sitting position affects the spinal cord, it is very important.
The next key factor is the size of the room. Just imagine a bulky furniture being squeezed into a small room; it is a horrible site. Finally, you need to take care of the interiors of the place. The furniture you purchased must definitely match the ambiance and colour. On the whole, choose one that suits your taste, your room and your budget.

What are king size blankets?

King size blankets are a very big type of bedding, generally speaking, a very large piece of cloth, which purpose is to keep the user warm, especially while sleeping. Blankets are distinguished from sheets because of their thickness and purpose; the thickest sheet is still thinner than the lightest blanket because blankets are for warmth, while sheets are for hygiene, comfort and aesthetics. A quilt is a type of bedding composed of several layers generally combined using the technique of quilting. Many are made with decorative designs, and some of these are not used as bed covering at all, but are rather made to be hung on a wall or otherwise displayed. The process of quilting uses a needle and thread to join two or more layers of material together to make a quilt. Typical quilting is done with three layers: the top fabric or quilt top, batting or insulating material and backing material. The quilter’s hand or sewing machine passes the needle and thread through all layers and then brings the needle back up. The process is repeated across the entire piece where quilting is wanted. A duvet is a type of bedding — a soft flat bag traditionally filled with down or feathers, or a combination of both, and used on a bed as a blanket. Duvets originated in rural Europe and were made from the down feathers of the eider duck, known for its usefulness as an insulator. Comforters are intended to keep the user warm, especially during sleep, although they can also be used as mattress pads. Comforters are generally large and rectangular in shape, filled with natural or synthetic insulative material and encased in a shell/covering. Comforter sizes correspond with bed sizes: twin, full, queen, king, and cal-king. Comforter sizes run slightly larger than actual bed sizes to allow for draping over the sides of the bed. Typical sizes in the United. States for comforters are:Twin = 64? Width x 87? Length,Queen / Full = 87? Width x 87? Length,King Size Blanket = 101? Width x 90? Length. Blankets were traditionally made of wool because of wool’s warmth, breathability and natural fire-retardant properties, while sheets were made of cotton or linen, which are less irritating to the skin. Nowadays, synthetic fibers are frequently used for both. Throw blankets are smaller blankets, often in decorative colors and patterns that can be used for extra warmth outside of bed. These days, there are also electric blankets which are heated by electricity. <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq. push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www. kingsizeblankets. net”>King size blankets are the bigger size you can get for blankets and are especially designed to fit beds with a big width, length or both. In some cases, they could be made for special needs. There are many types of blankets including quilts, duvets, and comforters, depending on their thickness, construction and/or fill material. Chapter 1 of Jerry’s Riot: The True Story of Montana’s 1959 Prison DisturbanceA GHOST’S WHISPERA board falling flat to the floor is thunder to the heart. And so it was that when prison guard Clyde Sollars heard a hard clap, he stiffened in fear. For a few seconds he listened, breathless. Sollars looked at his wristwatch, an anniversary gift from his wife. The hands showed almost four o’clock. He reached into the canvas bag he had carried into the prison from the main office across the street. Inside the tiny mailroom that was nothing more than a cubbyhole with shelves, wedged at the end of a short hallway, he sorted the day’s last letters. That noise, sharp and urgent, echoed in his head. The convict carpenters working with hammers and saws near the deputy warden’s office must have dropped a board. The day suddenly felt used and cold, like frost on a flower. Feeling a chill that he couldn’t understand, he worked faster. An hour earlier, Sollars waited outside the prison’s rock walls, across the street, while his wife Helen censored the last letters. She was the new matron in the Women’s Unit, a small stockade behind the main prison. They told her that if she worked with the mail superintendent for a few weeks she would know the prison better. Every morning she and another matron marched eleven of the thirteen female prisoners from their quarters to their jobs in prison offices outside the walls. Clyde felt lucky to see her during working hours. He was one of two mail and transportation officers, alternating with another guard on road trips to return parole violators to Deer Lodge. The most recent assignment had been to North Dakota. The other guard asked for it, hoping to visit relatives along the way. On this Thursday, April 16, 1959, Clyde Sollars might have been driving hundreds of miles to the east, free as a bird on the perpetual plains of eastern Montana. Instead he stacked mail into a bag, looked at his watch, and decided that before he ended his shift he would walk one more time into Montana State Prison. “See you at home, Mom,” he had said to his wife. That was what he called Helen sometimes. They had two daughters, grown and gone, and it felt good to speak to his wife as if the children were still at home. He had come to the prison in 1957. Like many of the guards before him, who found their way to Deer Lodge from the sawmills and the mines and the timber crews, he arrived at the prison with dirt on his heels. After leaving the Army after World War II he went to work in the grain elevators in Charlo, Ronan, Polson, Pablo and Paradise, all towns in northwestern Montana. Sollars was an ordinary blue-collar worker, as unadorned as the other guards who filed in and out of those imposing sandstone and granite walls. He was about to find out how plain men take on new worth in a crisis. He swung the canvas sack onto his shoulder and walked forty paces across Main Street and into the lengthening shadows of two mighty cell houses. The fortresses stood four stories high. Castle-ike turrets clawed at the pale sky from each of the eight corners. One cell house had been built before the turn of the century, the other, during Teddy Roosevelt’s presidency. They made an awe-inspiring sight to travelers who drove into town on Highway 10, a two-lane ribbon of asphalt, and stopped and pointed their Brownies to snap pictures. The forbidding prison, by some accounts one of the worst in the country, made for interesting vacation snapshots next to the more pastoral elements of Montana, like steaming geyser spray from Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park. Like most prison guards, Sollars saw little romance in the rugged architecture of the cell houses. He thought them ugly and wretched because he knew of the misery that they hid. He felt them staring at him with their troubled swollen eyes. The prison had eyes everywhere. The hundreds of prisoners watched and remembered all they saw, as did the guards if they knew what was good for them. The seven wall towers watched what was inside, and everything inside stared back. Eyes watched from everywhere. It was said that the prison’s ears heard all, even a ghost’s whisper. Wind swept the scent of spring snow off the mountains that loomed like a painted backdrop behind the prison. The scent stung his nose but felt fresh and clean. Only when Sollars arrived at the looming stone entrance did he shiver. Instinctively he zipped his blue uniform jacket. He tilted the bill on his police-style cap to shut out the sun, which already was fading behind the prison. Then he looked up. On the wall outside the tower, known as Tower 7 or the main gate, a guard stood with a loop of clothesline rope. He uncoiled it and let it drop twenty feet or so to Sollars, who unclipped from it a brass key that filled his hand. At the front of the tower, standing almost on Main Street where the cars rolled past, Sollars unlocked an ornate black grill door to enter the base of the two-story tower. Here, the easy innocence of small-town Deer Lodge dissolved into a dark cave of sandstone rock. A naked bulb cast dull yellow light that didn’t penetrate the corners. The room was cold and drafty. Sollars felt a change in him as he always did when he went inside. He locked the grill door behind him. This time, the rope dangled through a round opening in the ceiling. The guard who had stood on the wall a minute earlier was now inside the tower, up in the eagle’s nest where he could see the guts of the prison through its broad windows. Sollars attached the key, tugged on the rope, and the guard above pulled it back. Seconds later the rope returned. A new key rattled inside the tin tube. Sollars used it to unlock a wooden door, as thick as his hand was wide, on the opposite side of the tower. He swung open the door, stepped into the prison yard, and locked it again. The other guard, standing outside on the wall again and facing the prison now, dropped the rope. Sollars surrendered the key. He crossed a short courtyard to ten steps that led upward to another barred door. Behind it was Inside Administration, where guards brought their prisoner counts. Convicts came for medicine, or to get their teeth pulled in the dental office, or to shine the guards’ black leather shoes. In the photo office, they took pictures of the “fish,” the new men who arrived through the main gate and wrote descriptions of their scars and tattoos in case of escape. The visiting room was here, too. Inside Administration was the business district of this town of criminals. The cell houses, like big brothers, pressed against the chalk-white Inside Administration on either side, dwarfing it. On the south end, to Sollars’ left, was the 1896 version. This cell house had buckets for toilets. Despite all the technological inventions before its construction, it more resembled a Civil War-era fortress with its galleys of wood and its cell doors that had to be locked individually. It was made of dark brick, the color of dried blood. Its round turrets had roofs that came to a point, where in the early days big flags flew. To the north, the 1912 cell house was much the same in its rectangular construction, although its brick looked more orange by contrast and its square turrets flared at the top. Even forty-seven years after it was built, guards called this building the “new” cell house because it had plumbing and interlocking cell doors. None of the guards would doubt that this was Floyd Powell’s prison. The new warden from Wisconsin State Prison, a champion of reform, had proclaimed at his arrival eight months earlier that he would change this reputed hellhole into a model institution that would be the envy of every prison in America. Not everyone shared his enthusiasm. Some residents of Deer Lodge greeted his presence with skepticism, others with disdain. The town wasn’t accustomed to a warden of such outward determination, and the prospect of an improved prison was a new idea. In Wisconsin he had a reputation as a bit of a daredevil because he was willing to go into prison cells to talk inmates out of knives or other weapons. From childhood he lived a hard life and was determined to overcome it. As a boy, and the oldest son, he took over the family farm when his father became disabled in a car accident. He also hired out as a laborer to bring extra money home. He was a driven, determined self-made man. The new warden arrived in Deer Lodge to repair decades of decay and mismanagement at the only prison in Montana’s vast landscape. It was an outpost of sorts, planted in a town of fewer than 4,000 residents in a tall empty county – Powell County, coincidentally – where Hereford cattle outnumbered people. The prison had stood at that spot along the Clark Fork River since Montana was a territory, when sluice miners crawled the snow-fed creeks and road agents fleeced them of their gold nuggets. It had been a familiar face to three generations of Deer Lodge folk who worked there. The old prison was a tolerated place, if not tolerable, a dark ripple in the stream of a good life. In a wide lonesome valley that felt like cupped hands beneath the heavens, the prison’s purpose was a spoiling, a footprint of humanity’s inevitable sorrowful deeds. Montanans liked their prison kept quiet, much like ignoring a sleeping dog for fear of its bite. With Floyd Powell’s arrival, that was about to change. There, between folds of the Rocky Mountain Front that wore some of the best forests in Montana on its flowing cape, his agenda for reform took shape. As summer waned, Powell charged ahead with uncommon energy, trying to change everything at once. He recruited Ted Rothe, his friend and ally, from Wisconsin State Prison. To make the prison safer, he hired more guards. To know the troublemakers, he started classifying prisoners by crimes and behavior. He even fired the “con bosses” who had supervised their peers in the industries and shops. Powell was a whirling dervish. In his quest to bring the prison into modern times, he was upsetting the balance of power inside of it. Clyde Sollars felt a haunting at the prison. The prison felt dead and ugly. Knowing the men held inside was like ripping open a psychological veil. Behind it were the inmates’ victims and their personal agonies. Civilization built prisons to hide what they didn’t want to see. Sollars and all the other guards discovered that in the midst of convicted men they met hell, exposed and raw and full of pain. Guards coped with two evils: real dangers and apparitions. They sensed in Floyd Powell’s vision a change in wind direction. It felt like a storm building on the mountain. To many Montanans, prison reform was worse than a futile gesture. It was a violation of faith. If anything, a guard’s life was a fertile field for conversation. On the outside, off shift, guards cracked their foaming Great Falls Selects and smoked their unfiltered Camels and ranted of how it was, how it really was, and lamented Powell’s policies and the joint and the torment of their working lives. At the top of the steps at the barred door into Inside Administration, Sollars pushed a button that sounded a buzzer. Officer James “Little” Jones, the second-shift turnkey, appeared at the door. He was as short as his nickname implied, but a muscled, wiry man, and his hair was thick and black. “Last trip for today?” he asked Sollars. He opened the door for Sollars to pass and then swung it shut. Metal crashed against metal. He turned the big key until the lock slid closed with a thunk. Jones made small talk before Sollars entered a little hallway to his right. He had been sorting the mail for fewer than ten minutes before he heard the noise that scared him. Jones worked two grill doors that day. On the west side of the building, opposite from where Sollars had entered, two grill doors spaced twelve feet apart created a vestibule, where on most days one door would be locked before the other was opened. Those doors admitted convicts from the yard. Usually a second turnkey guard worked between the doors and had to work them with care to avoid being trapped with both sets of keys. Today Jones was working alone. On such days when the afternoon shift was short a man, the outside grill door was left open. Convicts who had business to do came up the steps from the yard on the west side of Inside Administration and walked right up to the second grill door in the vestibule. As a matter of policy, Jones would order them to step back before he unlocked the door. Standing now inside his claustrophobic mailroom, Sollars was thinking again about the noise that bothered him. Like other guards he had become accustomed to listening beyond clanging doors and crude language for true and ominous signals of trouble. This noise had ricocheted around the jungle of concrete rooms like a clap of thunder. Had he heard a board falling flat to the floor, blasting the air away? Or had he heard something else? His suspicion grew. For a few moments only silence came to his ears, and in prison, silence deafens. Here, a dictionary of sounds lay open in Clyde Sollars’ mind, as it did for every guard, ready for quick reference. In this prison of a thousand eyes, danger usually came first to the ears. Sounds that fill the prison alarm new guards. As months pass those sounds become a pattern of routine. The prison at its safest was a numbing routine and a guard was soon to learn that he should listen close when the routine changes. From somewhere in the maze of rooms came an urgency of shoes on tile. They weren’t squeaks of new shoes but the warnings of a struggle. Sollars felt curious and then afraid. He crept into the lobby. Here in this gloomy room, where convicted men had tromped a trail in the linoleum, he saw no carpenters, nor did he see anyone else. Where was Jones, the turnkey guard? And why were both barred doors to the yard standing open? That very second, as Sollars comprehended a guard’s greatest fear, a squat and sweating convict rumbled into the lobby from Deputy Warden Ted Rothe’s office. His big fist clutched a thin ugly knife, red with blood. Sollars recognized him at once. He didn’t know the man well, in fact couldn’t recall a conversation with him, but in an instant Sollars sensed the man’s frightful confidence. Like a mad bull, Jerry Myles snorted through a flattened nose that listed to the left. Rivers of purple and red ran across his flushed face. His bully scowl, accentuated with heavy eyelids and full pouting lips, promised trouble. His high forehead, where only a tongue of wavy salt-and-pepper hair remained, shined with sweat. He tilted his head backward a bit, daring Sollars to defy him. Sollars had heard this man was nicknamed “Shorty” and could see why. Myles stood only a shade over five feet, and despite thick arms and a chest as round as a rain barrel, his feet were dainty like a woman’s. His shoes seemed too petite for a man who propelled his stout body with such authority. He was a bull on tiny feet. Although a common burglar, Myles had a reputation among the guards as a jocker, meaning he stalked young men for sex. They also called him “Little Hitler,” alluding to his remorseless and domineering behavior in the cell house. He courted violations of the rules in an effort to draw attention to himself, and when he was caught, tried to make amends in pitiful ways. At 125, his IQ was far higher than most of his fellow convicts. He wrote poetry, enjoyed the strategic challenges of chess, and had learned to play the violin. Had he not been a psychopath, he might have been a scholar. Little good had come from his intellect. Other than occasional regret over his troubled loveless life, he reserved most of his thinking for petty hates and distorted illusions. Sollars thought he saw a flicker of compassion in the eyes of this mad bull before him. When Myles spoke, his voice came softer than Sollars had expected. “This is a riot and if you want to live, Cap, do what I say,” Myles advised him. At first Sollars didn’t understand that Myles was even more dangerous than he appeared. Prison was his home. Now forty-four years old, he had spent most of the past twenty-five years at Alcatraz Island and five other federal and state prisons. Mutinies came to him as second nature. He thought he knew prison life better than anyone who had guarded him. Myles was determined to impress on his captors that because of his long history of confinement he deserved special privileges. It soon would become clear to everyone in Montana that he desired to run the prison. Myles stepped toward Sollars. He guided the knife in front of his short bulk like he was trying to clear a path with it. Sollars didn’t doubt that Myles would kill him. He raised his hands in surrender. Sollars had been to war and seen a few fights at the grain elevators but knew nothing about confronting armed convicts. Behind Myles came Lee Smart, the kid with eyes of ice. Sollars knew him as the teenage murderer. He was skinny and had a girl’s countenance but everyone knew he was a psychopath and gave him room. Smart had a sassy defiant way about him. He walked around the prison with his trousers drooping. Between Myles and Smart stood Sergeant Bill Cox. Blood soaked the shirtsleeve on his left arm from shoulder to wrist. He had a jaw of rock that made him look fierce but now his strength was gone and his face white and dazed. Cox worked in the captain’s office between the lobby and Ted Rothe’s office. As Sollars tried to understand what he was seeing, he wondered for an instant why the scene didn’t include Deputy Warden Rothe. Then he looked closer at the boy. Smart pointed a lever-action rifle at Sollars. He gripped the barrel not as a hunter would with a thumb on one side and fingers on the other for a clear view, but with his fingers wrapped all the way around. The ominous opening at the barrel’s tip looked larger than life. Sollars smelled gunpowder. He saw Smart’s other hand at the trigger, coaxing it. Sollars felt a violation of the basic order of life. He blinked hard behind his glasses. He wouldn’t forget Lee Smart’s blank cold face. Further information about Jerry’s Riot is available at http://www. skybluewaterspress. com

Winter is nearly upon us so our thoughts turn to spring/summer as LFW SS11 begins. Even the weather warmed to the event as it went from crisp chilly days to end with blazing hot sunshine.
Early on Day one and opening the show at the BFC marquee catwalk was Paul Costelloe. Still sleepy, frantic shouting backstage put a smile on our bleary eyed faces.

PAUL COSTELLOE
Titled ‘A Long Day’s Night’, the collection is girly and described as ‘Tinkerbell turned party girl’. Cropped biker jackets are thrown in to give a harder edge but are softened with the use of lighter colours and soft sheen fabrics.
Skirt lengths go to the extremes – either short or maxis. The short skirts are fun and flirty whilst the maxis are elegant and ethereal – one a sensual diaphanous fabric with modesty only prevailing through the pale pink and blue zigzag wave pattern.
Colours are sugar pink, mint green, silver, pearl, greys and navy. The pinks formed abstract checks with navy and white, lightly spice up graphic patterns with pale apricot, zigzagged with pale blue in waves and graduated alone from light to a bolder hue. The mint green was refreshing in a shiny jacquard fabric.
Textures come in metallic weaves and twill, patterns in abstract checks and graphics. Large bows don the back of low backlines.
The short skirts swirled in skater style, cocooned legs in tulip and puff ball shapes and looked art deco in a dropped waist pleated style. The more interesting were the silver embossed puff ball dress tied at the bottom to form the shape of a large bow and the jacquard mint green dress looking futuristic with its stiff 3 tiered skirt.
To keep the smile on our faces, we were treated to Costelloe’s six sons strutting down the catwalk (albeit nervously) suited and booted.

BUNMI KOKO
Kicking off the Vauxhall Fashion Scout at Freemasons Hall Covent Garden was Bunmi Koko. To celebrate the start of the show a lone Ekpe man danced in a bright red and yellow masquerade costume looking very much like a large pom pom. It was hard to visualise the collection usurping this, but amazingly it did.
Hear we saw no pretty summer pastels or girlie styles. Colours were bold monochrome, bright reds and burnt ochre. Prints are Ekpe, leopard and tie dye designed to create fiery flames. The style epitomises the confident feminine woman who knows what she wants and aims to get it. Titled ‘Matriarchy’ the collection celebrates female empowerment whilst fusing cultures of Nigeria and the UK. This is power dressing with a wild twist – sharp tailoring, enhanced waists, and strong shoulders embellished with pom poms, beads and fringing. An eclectic mixture of fabrics and patterns are used together such as tweeds, organza and silk – all accessorised with ornate feathered masks.

CAROLINE CHARLES
There was a mixed reaction to this sleek ladylike lux inspired collection as you instantly thought ‘mother of the bride’ due to the lengths of the skirts which are either on the knee or just below, plus the accessories of hats, long gloves and kitten heels .
For day wear there are sleeveless dresses in brightly coloured 50’s print floral silk, polka dots and animal prints. Suits have full or pencil skirts and boxy jackets in white, black and yellow. All cinched in with skinny leather belts of various colours. Black Capri pants and leggings give a more youthful feel worn with tunic shirts in a monochrome check and a leopard print. Although not sure on the skull caps which looked suspiciously like rubber swimming hats.
For the evening, dress shapes vary from the shift dress to the full volume skirt. Colours are of soft golds, pearls, reds and black. LBDs are accessorised with diamond and pearls. Lots of sequins and beads.
This collection probably wouldn’t appeal to the younger woman but then again it is right on track for Ascot, Goodwood and Henley’s where fashion rules are not to be broken if you want to get in.

JENA . THEO
The designer duo’s (Jenny Holmes and Dimitris Theocharidis) collection titled ‘Bandoliers’ is inspired by the spirit of India with a touch of 19th Century Victorian British colonialism.
Silk turbans adorned the models’ heads, handcrafted Indian trim embellished flowing fabrics and skinny pants whilst fabric versions of the bandoliers feature as low slung belts, cuffs, necklines and garters.
Denim creates contrasting structure in shorts, jackets and dresses. Colours are either block pastel hues of iris blue and dusty violet pink or raw ecru. The raw ecru splashed with hand painted colour was inspired by the Holi festival when coloured pigment and herbs are thrown in a joyful celebration.
Stiletto platform shoes were adorned with raw painted gold leaf, as was the model’s arms, ankles, stomachs and even one nipple.
The Victorian influence came in the disguise of a corseted iris blue mini dress with soft side bustle and a mini dress version of the cage crinoline.

Day 2 and another early morning start on a chilly day. This time at the Off schedule location of the edgier Old Sorting Office’s industrial hall in new Oxford Street

BERNARD CHANDRAN
Titled ‘A Modern Romance’ Chandran keeps pastel hues to a minimum preferring the richer tones of golds, greens, silver and black. His clean rectangular silhouettes are given texture through the use of a Malay technique called kerrawang, to create linear prints. Silk organza sleeveless tunic dresses show a military feel with oversized floating flap pockets and boxed sleeves, whilst the prints reflect the Malaysian rainforest.
Metallics bring fluidity and a sci-fi feel with liquid silver pieces and as multicoloured panels on dresses. Here we still see the floating pockets and the boxed sleeves become more exaggerated. New fabrics used are lurex silk and patent leather.
Evening wear in the guise of embellished structured lapels, one with an extremely low neckline which kept falling off the models shoulder, with the last outfit resembling the 1920’s with its long straight camel maxi and ostrich feathers capelet.
Unfortunately for one model the winged styled shoes with their high and extremely thin killer heels almost made her crash land.

CRAIG LAWRENCE
‘Siren Mermaids’ inspired by Sirens of Greek mythology and the fantasy world of mermaids. Using cutting edge materials such as Japanese Kyototex metallic yarns in his knitwear techniques, Lawrence enables the garments to glisten as if wet. Colours are peacock green, silver and white. Long tube maxi dresses cling to the models like mermaid tails with the two toned greens and silver creating the illusion of fish scales. The garments are also turned inside out to show web like textures and chain mail detailing which adds to the illusion. A white strapless tube maxi is adorned with loose long yarns like floating seaweed, whilst an empire line maxi is covered with feather-like yarns to represent sea foam. Very mystical.

LAKO BUKIA
Next stop was Freemason’s Hall to catch Lako Bukia’s show. Titled ‘Surati’, the collection has been dedicated to Georgian culture and religion, Bukia’s native country. Colour palette of soft blues, pinks, greys and natural tones were taken from the Georgian buildings although red, midnight blue and black were also included. And strong shoulders souring out and upwards representing the silhouettes.
Light fabrics of silk satin, crepe and cotton contrasted well with the angular structured shoulders. Whilst a top layer of organza, georgette and chiffon are used to create the illusion of looking outwards through the curtains of windows. Dress shapes keep the buildings rectangular silhouette by either falling straight from the neckline or with drop waists. Whilst rows of windows are represented through the placement of strips of fabric crossing over each other, and the cutaway necklines.
The models wore shoes designed by Bukia with what is becoming to be her signature heel – chunky and triangular.

OSMAN
Back in the big tent at Somerset House, Osman proved to be in demand with some unlucky ticket holders being turned away.
Staple colours are tans, beiges and navy with a refreshing splash of honeysuckle pink, zingy yellow, and apple green.
Woven and soft patent leathers come in creamy beige sculpted shorts, swing skirts, and bandeau tunics. Cotton blended ottomans appear as crisp summer white dresses; lightweight gossamer silks come to life in the vivid hues and the organic dark blue denim brings an edge to sculpted tailored dresses
Hemlines bring interest to the minimalist tailoring with asymmetry, softly folded tiers, extremely long tail coats and attached coloured drapes of longer length.

Evening and just time enough to squeeze in another catwalk show before the Phrophetik after show party. This time the location was the Charing Cross hotel and the show called ‘A la Mode’ was organised by La Genève North events. A LA MODE is a one stop destination to snap up and discover some of the best independent international designers.
OMAR MANSOOR‘s collection is named after Terence Rattigan’s ‘After the Dance’ – a play whose central characters have spent years in a round of endless hedonism in the 20s. Mansoor’s designs reflect the glamour of this era with embellishments of Swarovskis and thread work on draped chiffons and silks in silver grey, dusty pink, wine and midnight blue. The long gowns ooze elegance and sophistication, whilst the knee length floaty cocktail dresses have a flirtier look allowing you to dance the night away.
VALERY KOVALSKA’s collection ‘Professional Suicide’ includes both mens and womenswear and has a contemporary punk rock edge. Various shades of blues with a striking design of white lightening. Weave designs on shirts and waistcoats add texture and loving the men’s kilt style coat.
BELINDA LIU’s ‘Marquis de Sade’ collection takes its inspiration from the French aristocrat’s libertine lifestyle and the fashion of his era. Here we see the modern version of the full bloomers over mini puffed skirts, corset style bodices, matching cuff bracelets and romantic lace hooded capelets. More wearable pieces include the tailored knee length dresses with matching capelets.
ZED-EYE . An eclectic mix of patterns and textures. Feathers adorn shoulders and waists, ruffles necklines and peplums, and a mesh of pearl beads around the neck. Floral patterned pencil skirt is matched with a striped blouse. Not all pieces are busy, such as the elegant jumpsuits in bold block colours of pink and blue with a touch of patterned trim.
MALAM’s ‘Lost Dolls’ collection is cute with a little edge – an assortment of lace, cotton, linen and silk. Black lace dress is adorned with a 2 tone metallic pink cowl neck collar and fingerless gloves, and there’s a pantomime feel with principal boy style waist coats worn over girlie lace trimmed dresses and fairy wizard type pointed hoods.

KATE WILLIAMS’s otherwise colour palette of black and white sees touches of tans, aquas and yellows in digital prints. The collection is a capsule wardrobe ranging from the black and white striped bikinis for the beach, tufted tasselled high waist shorts, jacquard trousers, white full skirted day dress, and digital printed jersey dresses to the floor length pearl satin evening dress.

Day 3 and back to Somerset House

BASSO AND BROOKE
The designer duo’s, Bruno Basso & Christopher Brooke, collection is where’ bleeding edge techno-fusion meets dusty hand scribbled antiquity’.
Digital prints of handwritten notes by Da Vinci, Tolstoy, Balzac and others mix with vintage florals and topography. Prints of suede, tweed and leather add digital texture to the smoother silks, cotton and gabardine.
Prim and proper necklines juxtapose with short flirty skirt lengths – long sleeved shirts buttoned to the top were worn with short swing skater skirts and mini shift dresses wore their necklines high.
Black and white multi tonal graduating stripes look striking as peg leg pants and capes. The neutral colour palette of earthy tones and pale dusty pastels is giving a jolt with electric blues and bright oranges joining the prints either as panels or the main piece.

ANN-SOFIE BACK ATELJE
After rushing to get to the Portico Rooms we then could relax and enjoy the slower paced salon show of Ann-Sofie Back. The theme for the collection is porn and the sexualisation of society.
Not being at all seedy the colour palette is sophisticated black and white. The look is simplistic with added twists: One fascinating white dress has the appearance of being damp and clung to the model’s body. Detailing is seen as twisted plexi bras worn over simple tops, large silver rings framing cutaway circles on backs and tear drop jewellery weights securing the drape fabrics.

CHARLIE LE MINDU
It was a touch of the Emperor’s New Clothes – did the models realise they were naked bar pink platform boots, wig and a hat? Apparently the effect was to focus on the wig and the hat – not sure it worked. I think part of the audience either concentrated on the boots with down cast eyes and the rest didn’t look up as far as the models head.
Not all the models were naked; most were decently covered in leopard prints or yeti like fur.
See it didn’t work, I haven’t once commented on the wigs.

Day 4 and at last, time to look around the exhibition. Here are some highlights:
TAMARA FOGLE
Tamara Fogle makes bags out of antique textile such as German flour sacks, Hungarian grain sacks, military tents, sailcloth, Welsh blankets and French mattress ticking. The German flour sacks (date range 1830-1940’s) are trimmed in chocolate brown Italian leather. The writing which is different on every sack (and so makes each bag unique) states the farmer’s name.
This season new colours of oranges and teals give a contemporary twist.
LEJU JEWELLERY
Leju use a special Amazonian seed known as vegetable ivory as a sustainable alternative to elephant ivory. Rich colours are created by staining and dying the seed with natural plant extract and oils. Their new collection brings together intense colours and bold structure threaded together using leather, hemp, wax thread, stainless steel and copper wire. Great to adorn your plain LBDs.
FINSK
Titled ‘Adagio’ this new collection is inspired by ballet training and slow movement is represented by the shape of the shoe or fold of leather. Tones are muted in mint greens, greys and flesh pinks with brighter shades of yellow, lilac and black in small details capturing the dancer’s movement. Her wooden wedges are HIGH with an almost rocking chair construction.
LA PERLA
La Perla collaborates with Jean Paul Gautier and brings out his signature cone bra cups and corseted waists. Colours are orange red, black and nude.
PIERS ATKINSON
Atkinson’s hats are whacky as ever with this season the story floating between Adam & Eve, Sleeping Beauty and the Green Man. Main colour palette is green (obviously) ranging from apple to moss, creams, gold and pale pinks to fuchsias. Designs are berets in suede or leather, straw mini-fezzes and silk florals creations.

Back on the catwalk shows, this time at Vauxhall Fashion Scouts’ Freemason’s Hall
ROMEO PIRES
This mens and womenswear collection has a circus clown feel to it with long broad braces holding up very low slung baggy trousers and skirts with wide loose waist bands. Main colour palette is crisp white and stone with touches of black and splashes of terracotta. Layering is key and prints of large skull are bold and dramatic.

Day 5 and the sun is shining and I’m back at the big tent in Somerset House.

JAEGER
Inspiration for graphic simplicity and geometric lines is drawn from abstract artist Robyn Denny’s clean colour blocked panels and the fresh sporty undertone from post-minimalist sculpture Rachel Whiteread.
Monochrome blazers and waistcoats have displaced lapels in contrasting shade to form sculptural shapes, simple tunic leather dresses and skirts are perforated and hemlines curved. 60’s style dresses continue the geometric lines and monochrome look.
Softer lines and colours are brought in through nude and buttermilk suede and loosely woven macramé sweaters and maxi dress.
Vibrant colours also appear in abundance with marine blue, spearmint, emerald, gold, raspberry and navy. And photographic print of large peonies in raspberry and monochrome bring a light feminine touch on silk gazar and organza shift dresses, tunic tops and skirts

ANTIPODIUM
The weather was definitely getting in to the swing of LFW as the sun shone through the Portico Room windows for Antipodium’s ‘Hothouse ‘collection. This mens and womens wear collection is inspired by the Barbican hothouse and what could happen if revellers succumbed to their natural urges at a refined soiree.
Prints are oversized entwined limbs in greens and greys on shirts and shirt dresses, dense foliage in mulberry and green, plus moths on sky blue blouses and mini flared skirts and dresses.
Skirt length varies from the flirty mini to the elegant 40’s mid calf length of the waffle knitted body con dress and stretch denim pencil skirts.
Brown washed linen shorts with a frayed hem look tailored teamed with waffled knit jumper and sky blue moth blouse, and the soft nylon raincoat in chartreuse gives the illusion of wet grass whilst the diaphanous chartreuse dress underneath reflects hot humidity.
Other main colour is dusty pale pink in a skinny leg pant suit and floor length diaphanous dress.

KRYSTOF STROZYNA
Lots of lace as high waist wide legged pants, maxi skirts and short dresses, but also as panelling in body con short dresses and lace fitted leg warmers. Main colour palette is muted beige with accents of neon violet, mint green and fuchsia pink in chiffon drapes, panelling, animal and tropical flower prints.

Day 6, move over girls, it’s now the boys’ turn

CHRISTOPHER SHANNON
Titled ‘Never Get to Go Anywhere’ this refers to the wanderlust of trips Shannon is yet to take.
The colours of the collection are light with lots of crisp optic white, pale sand and powder colours of lemon, pink and blue. Camouflage prints are pale blues, greys, black and white. Coloured panels are the look for shirts, shorts, trousers whilst nylon anoraks don coloured pockets. Rag tufting and mesh give texture to tops, shorts and hats. Large light grey rucksacks add to the adventurous holiday theme. The overall look is clean and you can’t help wonder whether this collection is more suited to a luxury holiday in the Caribbean rather than trekking in Nepal or on a dusty African safari.

J. W. ANDERSON
Titled ‘the Devoured and I’, the collection looks at the intimacy and journey of 2 people as they experiment and get lost in self discovery and subsequently the fall out and consequences of this.
Layering is key with waistcoats, shirts over tees, and knits wrapped round the waist, but the silhouette is slim and not baggy. Colours range from the muted earthy tones to burnt oranges, blues, pinks and black.
Grandmas may have to lock up their doilies as hand crocheted ones make an appearance here giving texture to tee shirts and knits. Admittedly not all are the basic white as some are dip dyed with neon colours to represent hallucinations. Also adding texture and a bit of bling are Swarovski crystals embellishing tops and boots. Patterns galore on rolled up chinos and digital prints of William Gedney the photographer grace the backs of tops.
The show ended this journey with a Pulp soundtrack and a wide laser beam display above the catwalk resembling a dense clouded sky.
And it is also the end of my LFW journey, next stop London Fashion Weekend.

Gift Your Bedroom A Personal Touch With Contemporary Bed Frames

Almost a third of human beings lives are spent sleeping. Hence, the bedroom must be a place of comfort, style and reflect the owner’s unique personality. If the bedroom has a cold, utilitarian feel to it, then your rest will not be peaceful and you will not enjoy this important time of relaxation and rejuvenation. As much as the mattress on which you sleep needs to be comfortable and elegant, the bed frame is equally important both to enhance the style of the bedroom and as a support for the mattress.
The platform bed frame was created long before the box spring frame. The essence of a platform bed frame is the raised, hard, flat surface that supports the mattress. The frame has a solid paneling that provides adequate support to the mattress. Hence the mattresses of most platform bed frames need not have a separate support. Depending on the style, platform bed frames can be divided into: 1. Traditional2. Transitional3. Storage4. Contemporary
The types of platform bed frames are described below. The traditional platform bed frame is the old classical form of platform bed frames. It can still be found in ancient houses and it blends with the architecture of that age. A transitional bed frame is the next step towards modernity. It is a mixture of the new and the old since it gives a fashionable feel but is constructed using old methods of carpentry. The storage bed frames come with a well deserved space to stock up clothes, travel bags and other stuff. It is elevated above the ground and has space below it to provide these privileges. Drawers can also be built into it.
Contemporary bed frames are the present form of bed frames. They are constructed in a clear manner with bright colours. They can be of the platform or the box spring style. They are built way down almost touching the floor. Wood, metal, aluminium are few materials from which they are being manufactured. They carry with them a European sense of style. Based on what comfort and fashion statement you want your bedroom to attire, you can choose a particular bed frame. Modern homes usually go for the lightweight aluminium frame with synthetic fibres as they increase the aesthetic sense of the bedroom.
Wooden contemporary bed frames can be used in country style villas in keeping with the rustic décor of the rest of the house. Wooden frames with carvings also give a romantic setting to the bedroom. For those who wish, contemporary canopy bed frames are also popular as long as you have the space to accommodate the canopy frame. The only drawback of contemporary bed frames that are low slung is that they may not have space underneath for extra storage. This works out fine if the bedroom is spacious enough that the space under the bed is not required to store extra stuff.
The canopy platform bed frame and most others come with a headboard and foot board at their ends. The contemporary bed frames lack the foot board and contain only the headboard. Selection of the headboard for your platform bed frame should be plain and simple. If you own a rectangular platform bed frame, settle with a rectangular headboard as it would match up well. Experimenting with a curvy headboard might not be a very good idea. See that the colour of your headboard and bed frame also matches for the grand look you want.
Contemporary bed frames come with a variety of headboards including ones with mirrors fit into them. These are definitely a sought after style as they enhance the look of the room well fitting with the bed frame. They will add more scenic beauty to the room if you place them opposite an open window to absorb all natures’ beauty. Few headboards also have accessories such as rectangular shelves which can house books, flower vases, alarm clock, reading light etc. . . A platform headboard coming along with a book shelf can keep you from investing in another small table for your bedside.
Modern platform bed frames come with the inclusion of a leather headboard in one of its types. The leather headboard is a nice way to boost a man’s bedroom. It brings a masculine and heroic effect to the room. To have a stunning effect it should contrast in colour with the room. You can also experiment by using headboards made of a different material to go along with your modern platform bed frames. For example: try matching a black headboard of wrought iron for your wooden bed frame. Use your creativity, imagination and money to design your very own bed frame. Just be aware of the size of the room, avoid too large structures to prevent a shabby look. Going in for contrast colours will highlight the accessories better and give your desired bedroom.

Teds Woodenworking Review

Very often, these merchandise include a whole lot of “bonuses” for wooden-working, be it any form of wooden-working e-books, or whatever software that relates to working with wooden and producers of these wooden-working merchandise really try to focus on the “add-ons’, the “freebies” that you may be get when buying their product – for the straightforward motive that the core -woodworking product itself is rather slim on insight on woodworking.

My Personal Review on Graco Pack n Play TotBloc Playard, Bugs Quilt

Mom says that of the eight great !!!!!!! What a great yard! With eight children, we had a few to compare. This is quite an experience. It sets as the standard Pack N Plays, which I find very easy. We had a standard rectangular Pack N Play for several babies. That’s the one we take in transport, and he wanted me could not cease established somewhere in the house. This one, straight from the box, placed in about 30 seconds for my 14 years of age. It is so bright and colorful and fun. My newborn is not too interested in that part yet, but my 2 year old refused to leave, when I put it in exploration. Probably both to use. The bottom padded part is very nice, thicker than the other Pack N Play, bright and colorful, and I think it will live off if necessary. The toys on the side are really cute. My choice of this particular one was made because the rating of use from birth to 3 years (some of the others were rated only 1 or 2 years) as well as fun and colorful it looked, and size larger. The rectangular Pack N Plays are fine for sleep or sleep, but once the baby is bigger, they are a bit cramped for playing. This will be perfect, as your baby grows, why they want to play . . . . . in a safe, fun, stimulating, or when a brother can not be right there. The only negative, which Wouldn ‘not deter me at all, is the carrying bag is a bit “cheaper” looking, feeling that the other Play Pack N we have. Do not think about toting this one, so for me, it’s not a problem, but it could be someone.

Amazon. com Product DescriptionThe first thing to note about the Graco Pack ‘n play is that it is larger than many Corralitos. This colorful, mesh face pen unfolds to 38 “x 38″ square, rather than the rectangular shape of most others in the market. While this equates to needing more space, it also means that the baby is composed of a large (and stronger) area to play in. The playard stability comes from a metal frame with four legs, which, together with the four legs the corner, gives eight points of contact with the ground.
The bag includes makes easy storage and carrying.
Setup takes one person only minutes, from snapping the frame in place to ensure rigidity, padded-top floor (cutely decorated with a fun bug pattern) with velcro fasteners. Breaking down once again is so simple, and there is a convenient nylon storage / carrying bag included for easy portability. Bundled, play pack ‘n measures a compact 38 inches long by 10 inches square, but in about 24 pounds, may be heavier than expected.
The baby appreciate the extra space, the friendly error reason, being able to see mom and dad through the soft mesh walls, and the four interactive toys, one on each side. There is a sun with a mirror at its center, teaching baby self-awareness. The ladybug’s body houses a squeak toy. Show them how to whistle to teach ear, eye and hand coordination. Both the bee and butterfly wings that “flap” inside the corral, “a set creates a rattling noise when moved, while the other makes a crinkling sound. Baby will enjoy the different sounds, textures, and the offer of incentives toys, while parents will enjoy not having to pick up or lose them.
Care for package ‘n play is easy: use a damp cloth or sponge with household soap to wipe vinyl, plastic and metal parts, the bag can be machine washed and either line dried or tumbled on low. If you need to replace the bag or floor pad, both are available for purchase separately.

From manufacturer Our Pack ‘n play yard TotBloc game has a great game with the additional space that creates a security zone that your little will love. It is also loaded with convenient features to you, including a simple configuration that allows you to baby-ready in less than a minute. This pen is durable ultra-portable, it weighs less than 25 pounds. With the convenient carry bag, you’re ready to go anywhere, anytime.

Enhancing Your Hammock With Accessories

Edit Article |

Hammocks are simple, easy to use, and comfortable–a truly relaxing experience. You can make that experience even better by choosing from a variety of hammock accessories. Cushions, stands, and other items made especially for use with your hammock will allow you to customize it just for you. They can also make your hammock both more portable and more versatile.

One of the basic hammock accessories are cushions. Cushions come in three general shapes: bolsters, traditional rectangular pillows, and cubes. Bolsters are perfect for the neck support you may want for lying back, gazing off into the star-filled sky while you relax and drift to sleep. Traditional pillows are nice and cushy under your head as you read, do the crossword puzzle, or lie back and watch the grass grow. But wait a minute–cubes are hammock accessories? Well, cubes are fun! Use them to support you arms, legs, or that summer novel you’re reading. Whatever type of cushion you prefer, you can choose either traditional or exposure resistant materials; both come in a variety of colors and patterns.

Want to put a hammock in the family room but don’t have anywhere to suspend it from? Luckily, one of the most popular hammock accessories is stands. These are sturdy, attractive frames, made from a number of different materials, from which you can suspend your hammock. Having a stand allows you to put the hammock anywhere in the house or outside where there’s the room to stretch it out. You can choose these hammock accessories in styles and materials that compliment and enhance your indoor or outdoor decor. There are stands for traditional, double, chair, and swing hammocks as well. Wood, steel, and wicker stands all offer the comfort, safety, and flexibility you look for. Tie down straps are also available to keep the hammock stabilized when you get in or out of it. If you are suspending your hammock outdoors from two trees, you might want to get tree straps. These hammock accessories are really versatile: they protect your trees, provide secure support, and are portable if you take your hammock camping.

Other hammock accessories make using your hammock more fun or even easier. Canopies are a great idea to add. They provide protection from the sun as you relax in their shade. Canopies are available for most varieties of hammocks and in different materials and colors. If you have a stand, you may want to get wheels for it to make it easier to move around the yard or in the house. For those who love to lie back and read the summer away while sipping on a cool drink, the best hammock accessories will probably be caddies to hold your reading materials, and a braided drink holder!

A storage bag provides a convenient place to keep your hammock tucked away when you’re not using it. But with all these great hammock accessories, you just might find yourself using your hammock every day, all year long!

The Amazing World of Baby Wicker Baskets

A baby wicker basket is one of the most wonderful baby stuffs you can have. This is because the basket is used as a baby sleeping bag or even as a storage facility. The different ways you use a wicker basket can help decorate your house and put it in order. Wicker baskets meant for babies come in different shapes and sizes and can even come in different shades of color to suit the requirements of your baby’s nursery. Apart from helping you keep the baby confined in a place where you can watch it, others are designed to make great storage facilities for baby stuff. Wicker basket for bathroom basicsYou can use a medium or small size wicker basket to put baby soaps and towels. The baskets offer a neat and organized way of keeping baby bathroom stuff without scattering it all over and even losing some. Since they can be put on high shelves, they provide enough space in the room making it more organized. Bedroom bounty wicker basketsYou can use a wicker basket in your baby’s nursery or bedroom to keep special items such as toys and different stationeries like crayons. It is important to ensure that the basket is in a place where it is hard for the baby to push it over and cause injuries or scratches. You can also make the baby’s room neat by keeping washcloths, diapers and first aid kits in a wicker basket. When choosing a good baby wicker basket, it is good to consider what purpose it is going to serve. Most wicker baskets are made round but there are some which are box shaped or rectangular offering major storage facilities. If you want a wicker basket in which you can put your baby, consider going for the long rectangular ones which have handles. The different shapes can help you when storing it in a limited space, for example in corners; therefore it is good to consider all the factors before settling on a single wicker basket. You will find that arranging your baby stuff is really eased by having a few wicker baskets to help you be more organized.

Camping Equipment Essentials

Edit Article |

The amount and type of camping equipment you need usually depends on the type of camping you want to undertake. For camping, you need shelter, food, and ways to carry both. When it comes to shelter, you need to consider whether you want a tent or not. Some prefer camping out with just a sleeping bag. However, most like a tent in case of bad weather. Tents come in sizes ranging from individual up to six people. Prices will range upwards as well based on the size and quality of the tent. You can find a simple a-frame individual tent or a two-bedroom model complete with living area.

Sleeping bags are also essentials of camping equipment. You can find them in the rectangular style so familiar to sleeping parties your children attended. They come in sizes appropriate for just about anyone in your camping party. They roll up into a bundle for easy carrying. You will find the modern mummy style sleeping bags another option. These conform to the body of the person using it. They usually have less material in them than the traditional rectangular types. This makes them lighter for most backpacking trips. Use can use an inflatable airbed with or without a sleeping bag. Some prefer the elevated style of a camp bed.

You need camping equipment to cook food. If you camp in an area where you can have an open fire, then you will need cooking equipment. You can get sets with pans, pots, and accompanying lids. You can get dishes, cutlery, and even portable toasting racks that are light to carry. If you want a more modern option, you should consider a single burner stove that easily packs into a backpack. You can also go a bit bigger with a double burner model with protective cover. It is bulkier to carry about, but you can get more food out of a single stove.

How do you carry everything in and out? Unless you get a caravan, you will need to be able to carry what you need. Each member of your party can carry a day sack or a rucksack. Day sacks are appropriate for overnight trips. You will need a rucksack for a longer trip. They sit over the shoulders and provide storage places for anything you need. Some come with additional straps to latch sleeping gear and tents to the outside. These are the essentials of camping equipment.
