Camping with a 13 year old boy?
Monday, March 28th, 2011I рlаn οn taking a 13 year οld boy hunting wіth mе fοr thе 1st time thіѕ year. Hіѕ grandmother doesn’t trust mе tο take hіm bу myself ѕіnсе I аm аn openly gay man аnd very flamboyant аbουt іt. I wear turtleneck sweaters, long hair іn a pony tail, I drive a hybrid, I carry a man purse, I speak wіth a lisp аnd I οftеn pirouette fοr nο apparent reason. I аm tested fοr HIV еνеrу 30 days fοr mу οwn peace οf mind, аnd ѕο I саn tеll mу many partners hοw сlеаn I аm. Anyhoo, thіѕ grandmother seems tο thіnk thаt јυѕt bесаυѕе I аm gay I аm іntο lіttlе boys! All I want tο dο іѕ teach thіѕ por city boy hοw tο hunt, аnd whеn hе’s 18 maybe thеn wе саn take ουr friendship tο thе next level, whο knows. Whаt I really want tο dο іѕ gеt thіѕ 13 year οld boy used tο camping, used tο sleeping іn a tent wіth a man, аnd mаkе sure hе’s completely comfortable thе whole time, I don’t want tο risk scaring hіm аnd having hіm lose interest іn mе аnd hunting. Thе grandmother іѕ really cramping mу style though! Shе knows thеrе isn’t enough room fοr hеr іn thе tent, I suggested ѕhе bυу hеr οwn tent tο sleep іn ѕο thе 13 year οld аnd I саn hаνе thіѕ one tο ourselves. Shе wаntѕ tο bυу mе a 4 man tent ѕο wе аll саn sleep іn іt together! Hοw саn I convince hеr tο trust mе аnd trust mу intentions wіth hеr grandson? I саn wait 5 years fοr hіm tο bе legal!
If уου hаνе nothing helpful tο add thеn don’t аnѕwеr!

Twenty Questions (and Some Answers) to Help You Find the Right Camping Tent

If you want to get a tent but don’t know where to start, answer these questions and you’ll be well on your way to finding the perfect tent. How many people will be using the tent? Having a general idea of how many people will usually be using the tent will get you a long way towards knowing where to start. Later we will bring in weight and other factors to nail down tent size. What kind of conditions will await you? Where will the tent be used? Will you be camping in established campgrounds or along a trail? If you will be using the tent along the trail, will you have a flat or even place to pitch it? Will you have a vehicle to carry your tent to the site, or will you be using human power? Will you have situations where you will need a free standing tent? What time(s) of year will you be using the tent? A better question might be about what weather conditions you will encounter. Although tents are often rated for seasons, where you encounter these seasons make a huge difference. If you’re only camping in Hawaii, is there really any difference in a three season and a winter tent? What you need to consider are the extremes of the weather. And what about wind conditions? Potential wind strength is a critical consideration about the demands made on your tent. Is the tent material important? How you answer the previous questions will answer this one, too. Tent material can have a big impact on ventilation, UV protection, ruggedness and weight. Is weight an issue? The question puts the other ones into perspective. If you will drive to your campsites and have helpers to set-up, you can put more emphasis on performance. If you pack in your tent, you will find that weight quickly becomes critical. How much interior space is needed? If weight is not an issue, you have the luxury of being liberal with space needs. Consider what you will be taking with you. What must go in your tent and what can stay in your vehicle? Will you need room for cots? Do children are older campers have special needs? Do you need to consider a sleeping tent and a day tent, or maybe multiple sleepers? What about the rain fly? A rain fly goes over the top of the tent to help keep out precipitation and protect from the sun. There are basically two types – awning style and full coverage. Awnings provide better ventilation. A full coverage fly will give you better protection. Do I need a vestibule? A vestibule is a section that extends out farther than the tent body. This gives you a place for your gear and a space to work, especially in small backpacking tents. Which pole type do I want? Decisions about pole type are usually based on your need for strength, durability and economy. Various technologies of very lightweight aluminum provide superior strength based on how much you are willing to spend. Fiberglass poles are a very economical choise for car campers, but aren’t as light or durable. How are the poles connected to the tent body? Poles are usually connected to the tent with either a vaulted pole sleeve, with clips, or with a combination clip/sleeve configuration. Vaulted sleeves are stronger and heavier. Clips provide better air flow. The hybrid clip/sleeve configuration provides a good compromise. Have fun finding your tent!

Selecting the Right Tents for Camping
How to Pick Good Tents for Camping Buying the most suitable tents for camping is not as easy as driving to the mall and buying one. Main things to consider when selecting tents for camping involve knowing which season you’re planning to go camping in, how well itprotects you from the weather, how easily it is to set up, and the air flow. A tent that you usually camp with at your lake house during the summer probably won’t be suitable for your camping needs in the early winter seaso. . .

Among the weapons for Indian warfare and hunting were Native American lances. Especially after the introduction of the horse, the lance was pivotal in a raid. Different Tent Styles

Designers have used modern materials and technology to produce more complex models than those that were possible a few years ago. These basic styles form the basis of modern tent design:
Dome – Simple dome designs have two poles crossing at the top; some have a hooped porch whilst others have a much bigger extended living area with access options. More complex pole systems are known as geodesic, with four or more crossover poles forming many intersections for superb stability, or semi-geodesic combining three poles, balancing stability and space. All dome designs help to maximise usable internal sleeping and storage space.
Hybrids – Larger tents range from designs featuring twin domes facing a shared living space (ideal for families), to domes with versatile porches- this gives them the title of a hybrid design, as they combine features of other styles. Lighter weight tents feature ingenious combinations of poles that defy description. All aim to maximise living space, stability and ease of use.
Tunnel – A tunnel design uses two hooped poles or more running in parallel to maximise internal space. Some can be huge; others are sized generously but still fairly lightweight. Small or large, many tunnel designs offer a large porch area and good living space useful for family camping trips.
Pop-up – Pop-ups were once regarded as play tents but no longer. Larger sizes, better designs and good materials combined with out-of-the-bag pitching are now a popular choice offering a fast effective shelter. The flexible poles offer a similar tent profile to tunnel designs.
Ridge – A classic ridge design with sloping sides and a roofline that runs parallel to the ground (A-framed shape). Ridge style tents offer good stability in bad weather conditions and even heavy snow, but they can be heavy and so not a good choice if you’re backpacking or travelling on foot carrying your tent.
Hoop – These designs use 1 or 2 poles running head to toe and are often very light. Great for lightweight camping, using a design with just one pole will offer the lightest option.
Tarps – These large geometric shapes of light fabric offer flexible shelter awnings using telescopic poles or taking advantage of trees to secure guylines. Lightweight and family campers alike can benefit from the extra protection from rain and sun.

Best Camping Tent – How To Determine Which Basic Camping Tent Design Is The Right One For You

There are many factors to consider when buying a camping tent, like size and cost. But design is certainly another factor you should think about. Each camping tent design has its advantages and disadvantages, so it’s very important to find out which design is the best for your planned trip. There are generally three basic camping tent designs
Ridge tent
Cabin tent
Dome tent
Let’s take a look at their strengths and weaknesses. Ridge tent This camping tent design pretty much resembles the traditional tent shape. It’s basically a pole supported, roof-shaped tent, kept upright by external guy ropes. Ridge tents show a simple structure and are usually very easy to set up which makes them convenient for backpacking or other tours where your camping tent is erected every evening in another place and merely a place to sleep and store your stuff. They are available for 1 to 3 sleepers and are fairly lightweight. However, this camping tent design is not the most suitable for heavy weather conditions. Cabin tent This is the ideal camping tent for families or larger groups spending a longer time in one place, for example on a campground. Having nearly vertical walls, a cabin tent offers large headroom which allows you to walk around inside and set up camping furniture anywhere you like. This makes indoor entertainment on rainy days or in the evenings easy. Some cabin tents can be divided into several rooms, which allow more privacy.
The cabin tent is the design that uses the ground area most efficiently and provides the most usable space inside. If you want a maximum of comfort and space, this is the camping tent of your choice. However, a cabin tent takes up more pack space and is heavier than similar sized ridge or dome tents. Dome tentThe traditional shape is a single dome, but you also find camping tent designs made up of several domes. Another style is the half dome or tunnel design which is a great camping tent for backpacking. A dome tent offers large floors space, but less useable space than a cabin tent of the same size. However, it’s much lighter than a cabin tent, and thanks to its rounded shape and flexible poles it’s very wind resistant and highly sturdy even in extreme weather conditions.
A dome style camping tent is not the best option when you have lots of equipment, want plenty of space and comfort and are likely to spend much time inside, but it certainly is a great choice for travelling with a tent (which means you basically just sleep in it), especially when you expect rough weather conditions. In general, the best camping tent for a family campsite holiday is usually a cabin tent, whilst ridge and dome tents are stronger candidates in travelling tours. For good weather trips, a ridge tent is most likely sufficient, but for rougher weather you will be better off with a dome tent. But it’s also a matter of your personal taste, and the world is not only black and white. There are many hybrids on the market, too, that have features of different camping tent designs. If none of the basic designs seems to be really right, those hybrids may be the solution for you.
