If you want to spend some time away from brick-rooms, in the lap of nature, a camping tent can shelter you. They have become a few thousand years old now, yet are a cheap and popular means of accommodation. The camping tents not only serve your purpose of recreation, but also help those who are nomadic or like traveling and do not have any place called home. The modern camping tents are comfortable, light in weight and compact. So you can easily carry them to your campsite even on a modest means of transportation. Kinds of Camping TentsThere are different kinds of camping tents to choose from. The points to consider are, the number of people camping with you and the weather of the place chosen as campsite. The varieties of the camping tents available today include- A-frame tents, dome tent, the cabin tent, family camping tents, large camping tents, solo camping tents or one man camping tents, couple camping tents or two man camping tents etc. Popular Camping TentsIf you are visiting a mountainous or sloping area, one-man tents are perfect for you. They are extra light in weight with dimensions of 5 ‘ x 6 ‘ x 4 ‘ and have poles with springs, which help in easy set up and dismantling. You don’t even need to carry a separate ground sheet or sleeping mat. The solo camping tents require very small portion to assemble. The two-man tents attract backpackers the most. Now-a-days they are available in various sizes, shapes and styles. The couple camping tents can be used, if you are planning to expend some time with your close mate or even when your kids just want to enjoy camping in the backyards. While purchasing, you are advised to buy the tent not heavier than four kilograms. Large camping tents are fit for those who are out for family camping or camping with large groups. These tents come in different sizes and have different features to fulfill your requirements. Some may have rolling or zipped doors and windows. Some others may have the facility of distinct compartments for different families or for separating parents with the kids.

Which Camping Tent Should You Choose?

There are all kinds of manufacturers of tents out there. Some create tents that are exactly the same as tent by a different manufacturer. Some are different. One of your prime considerations for picking a tent should be the name of the company that manufactures it. North Face for example is an extremely well known manufacturer of tents and other camping equipment as well. We all know though, that they can be prohibitively expensive to buy for your average every day family camping type of person.

A Guide to Choosing the Right Tent for your Camping Experience

Sunday, March 27th, 2011

Unlike previous generations, camping nο longer always involves sleeping іn a tent. RVs, commercial campgrounds аnd οthеr options provide аn alternative. Bυt thеrе’s іѕ still something satisfing аbουt connecting wіth nature through thе complete camping experience οf sleeping іn a tent.

Here іѕ a blueprint аnd a few tips fοr picking one thаt gives уου аll thе modern advantages, without thе traditional hassles.

Thе basic purposes οf a tent аrе tο provide privacy аnd protection frοm thе elements – wind, rain аnd (tο ѕοmе degree) сοld. Anу sturdy tent wіll satisfy thе first, bυt tο keep weather out requires more.

Windy conditions, common іn wilderness areas whеrе mοѕt campsites аrе found, саn рυt a hurting οn a tent. Bυt thanks tο modern materials, nylon fabric tents supported bу fiberglass οr aluminum poles аrе up tο thе job.

Thеrе аrе four basic types οf tents, thе A-frame tent, thе dome tent, thе cabin tent, аnd thе geodesic tent.

Thе A-frame tent іѕ thе mοѕt рοрυlаr οf аll four. Thіѕ classic style tent wаѕ mаdе well known mainly bу thе υѕе οf thе boy scouts οf america. A-frame tents hаνе two poles, each forming a triangleon аt еіthеr еnd οf thе tent. Thеіr іѕ аlѕο a central pole thаt forms thе ridge οf thе tent. Thе walls аrе formed аt steep angles аnd аrе usually јυѕt large enough tο accommadate a person sleeping. Tο hеlр hold thе tent іn рlасе guide wires аrе used. Thіѕ type οf tent іѕ ususally very unreliable іn windy conditions. In rain conditions a tarp іѕ οftеn needed tο keep campers dry.

Thе second іѕ thе dome tent. At present time, іn thе US thіѕ type οf tent іѕ thе mοѕt рοрυlаr. Thеу аrе available іn a variety οf configuations, bυt thе mοѕt common іѕ one іn whісh two jointed poles аrе crossed over one another tο form a large, bеnt X. In windy аnd rainy conditions a dome tent provides ехсеllеnt stability аnd shelter. Thе interior provided іn a dome tent іѕ given іn gοοd amounts wіth plenty οf headroom tο allow fοr sitting up. Many dome tents аrе built tο hаνе thеіr poles lock down tο thе tent base itself, allowing thе fully erected tent tο bе mονеd around without being disassembled.

Next іѕ thе Cabin tents. Thеѕе аrе enormous tents designed fοr υѕе wіth car capmping οr οthеr forms οf camping іn whісh weight іѕ nοt аn issue. Thеѕе tents take up a іnсrеdіblе amount οf space bυt provide a lot οf interior space аlѕο. Wіth space come a very heavy structure.

Last bυt nοt lеаѕt іѕ thе Geodesic tents. Geodesic tents аrе gradually gaining popularity amongst normal campers. Thеѕе tents take thе design οf a dome tent аnd imporves upon іt tο give іt better strength аnd resistance tο thе wind. Installation thе poles cross many times, lending strength tο thе entire structure. Wіth increased strength thіѕ tent саn withstand wind аnd snow frοm multiple directions.

Wіth аnу οf thеѕе tent designs, campers ѕhουld mаkе liberal υѕе οf thе саn οf sealant thаt іѕ offered bу many manufacturers. Yου set up thе tent аnd thеn spray thе seams tο mаkе thеm completely watertight. An air hole аt thе top οf many models саn hеlр keep thе interior frοm getting stuffy, bυt уου′ll want tο hаνе one wіth a closeable flap (еіthеr zipper, Velcro οr οthеr).

Thе floor ѕhουld bе equally waterproof, even sturdier аnd preferably conduct minimal сοld οr heat.

Tents аrе sold according tο shape аnd size. Hοwеνеr, a four-man tent іѕ really οnlу suitable fοr two adults, unless уου want tο bе really cramped. A sleeping bag іѕ аbουt 2. 5ft bу 7 feet. Thаt’s 17. 5 square feet. Double thаt tο allow fοr stepping space аnd room fοr gear. Thеn double іt again tο accommodate another person. Thаt’s 70 square feet οr аbουt 7 feet bу 10 feet. Thаt’s аbουt thе minimum.

Bе prepared tο spend a lіttlе more tο gеt a quality tent. Tent technology hаѕ developed tο such a high state, іt’s preferable tο spend a lіttlе more аnd gеt something thаt wіll endure.

LOOKING FOR A Family Camping TENT
For the beginning camper, a tent is a great way to start. And the first question you need to ask yourself is how big do you want it? Go check out www. americanoutdoorsupplies. com.  A two-person tent has very little elbow room or extra storage space. Multi-room tents are usually either two room styles with an inside tent wall that separates the bedroom from the kid’s room or screen room or a three-room with an added screen room for changing wet or dirty clothes before entering the rest of the tent or a dining room where you can set up chairs and a table if it’s raining.
If you are traveling with your vehicle, the size or weight of your tent or tents is not much of an issue for transporting it. Most will easily fit in your car trunk. Many experts suggest that size is determined by how many people will be using the tent. Always get a tent that is listed for at least two people more than the number of campers. For example, if two people will be camping, get a four-person tent, four people, a six-person tent, etc.
Some features you need to look for include:
• Aluminum poles. Fiberglass poles are more fragile and consequently, more likely to break.
• An adequate rain fly. This is the umbrella for your tent. The bigger it is, the better. It should come down the sides of your tent, not just over the top. Unlike the walls of the tent, which are water repellent, the rain fly should be completely waterproof.
Folded seams and double stitching. You shouldn’t be able to pull material on either side of a seam and see stitches. Strained seams will lead to tears and your tent won’t provide much shelter then. And remember to use seam sealer on all seams when you first get your tent and before every new camping season.
• One piece floor. The floor should be waterproof and should come up a few inches on the sides of the tent before it is sewn to the walls. There should be no seam in the floor.
• Adequate guy lines. These are loops sewn near the middle of the tent and are used to attach guy lines (usually rope) that pull out the walls so they are taut. You don’t want your tent flapping in the wind.
• Meshing for all windows, small enough to keep tiny bugs called noseeums out
• Roof vent. You need a vent at the top of your tent for air circulation. It will also eliminate condensation inside your tent so that it remains dry when dew develops in the morning
• Heavy zippers. These zippers will be used frequently. You want them to last.
Family and Outdoor Camping Tent Designs
A-Frame Tents
This is the traditional tent shape. It is light but has little headroom because of the steep slope of its walls. Some new campers describe it as claustrophobic. It will need a tarp and usually consists of two poles and wires to stabilize the structure. It is the least sturdy in wind.
Modified A-Frame Tents
These tents use curved poles for added stability and more interior space. They can be freestanding and often come with rain flies.
Cabin Tents
These provide lots of interior space but are much heavier and often more difficult to set up. They need to be staked properly so the fabric doesn’t sag and let water in.

Tunnel Tents
These tents have two or more poles running along their width and provide very good internal space. They are very stable if pitched directly in the wind but offer little protection from side winds.
Hoop Tents
Designed with curved poles at each end, these need guy ropes and pegs staked carefully so that unsupported fabric doesn’t flap in the wind. Both doors and interior space are roomy and, because of their design, snow and water flow easily off exterior walls. They are not as stable as dome tents. They have fairly good floor space and are the smallest and lightest packing tent.
Single-Hoop Tents
Ideal for backpacking, these are very lightweight and use only one curved pole. They are quite small and, at most, have enough room for two people only.
Dome Tents
A popular choice, dome tents are stable and simple to assemble. They use two or three poles which pass through the center of the roof and the ground area is either square  or hexagonal. They offer adequate headroom and sometimes even include separate rooms. Their design means you can utilize interior space efficiently. The hexagonal shape adds to the stability and offers maximum headroom space but less floor space than the square shape. If high, these tents can be unstable in strong winds. They handle snow better than most. Free standing, they are the most popular design for general camping.    For a Variety of Tents go to American Outdoor Supplies. For Adventure check out the Gear section.   For Outdoor Adventure and Feeling Better to enjoy, check out the Health and nutrition page.

What to Look for When Buying a New Camping Tent

Camping can be made even more enjoyable when it is done with the proper gear. A warm sleeping bag and thick mattress can make overnight stays more comfortable, but choosing the right camping tent for the job is essential. They come in many shapes and sizes that are suitable for all purposes. Most smaller and many larger tents are in the shape of a dome. They are compact to carry and easy to setup. A dome tent can sleep from one to five people, and can be staked down for security against the elements. Often when families go camping together the parents will provide and additional ten for the kids, allowing the younger campers to have a space of their own. Even camping dogs can get their own bedroom with the scaled-down version that is aptly called a pet tent. For individuals on the hiking trail, a hiking tent can be useful. They are lightweight, durable, one-man structures that are perfect for toting in the wilderness or along a trail. They are long and thin and easy to carry. Larger groups intending on staying in one location might be interested in cabin tents. This 2 room tent has dividers inside to offer privacy for changing or sleeping, or when someone just needs a little alone time. Cabin tents are generally longer, stretched out versions of the dome tent, and a new tunnel shaped design can hold up to twelve campers. Some camping areas have restrictions on the number of tents that can be set up per sight. A 2 room structure can provide the most space on one sight while staying within the campground’s restrictions. There are some additional features for tents that can make an even more pleasant experience. Tarps cover the top of the base structure to protect it from the elements and give an added layer of insulation. Some tents come with awnings, providing a shaded area to sit in. Gear lofts attach to the interior and provide extra space to store gear off the floor. Ceiling or window fans are made specifically to fit the tent and circulate the air to keep the interior cool. All of these additions can help ensure that the campers will have the best camping trip ever.

Things to Consider When Buying a Tent

Edit Article |

There are few things to consider when reviewing and purchasing a new camping tent. You need to look for features that you will enjoy and use for years to come. Deciding ahead of time what your new tent budget is will narrow your choices greatly. Once you have your budget in mind, it’s time to analyze the features of the camping tents in your price range. Let’s get going by checking the most important features for your new tent.
Size:
The size of the tent is probably the most important decision when buying a new tent. Tent capacity is based on the total square footage, how many average size adults and gear will fit in it. One that holds all your gear and is the correct size for the number of people that will occupy it is the right size for you. For example, a 4-person tent will accommodate four people, but there may be very little elbow room or extra storage space. You’ll find a 5-person tent will be more comfortable for four people and you will have additional space to spread out and store some gear too. For a family of four I would recommend a 5 or 6 person tent, this will ensure you do have enough room for all campers and their gear. Tents with screen rooms attached are great for storing gear and providing a place to eat or relax.
Weight:
The weight of your tent is usually only a concern if you’re backpacking or hiking trails. Your ability may also depend on fellow campers and the material your tent is made of. Canvas tents are much heavier than nylon and may require additional help or stronger bodies for assembly. Choosing wisely will save you time and make setup a breeze.
Ease of Assembly:
Most camping tents are simple to setup, but some are much easier than others. New designs with what is known as Insta frames are buy far the easiest and quickest to set up, but are usually smaller in size. For standard frame tents, look for ones that have shock corded poles. This helps keep the poles from getting mixed up, makes for quick and easy setup.
Tent Fabrics:
Their it a lot of debate over which fabric is best for a camping tent, Canvas has been used for over a hundred years and for many is a good and popular choice. Nylon is relativity new compared to canvas, but you will find most tents are made with this for several reasons, one being weight and another is cost. When treated properly, canvas tents will most likely outlast the nylon models. Just keep in mind that canvas products are usually about twice the weight and require much stronger poles.
Tent Poles:
Your frame system can be made from several types of materials including, steel, aluminum and fiberglass. Some exotic tents may even have carbon fiber for poles, but those are generally not what the average camper is looking for. I personally use tents with steel frames, but have occasionally used aluminum or fiberglass. Most cabin style tents will feature steel frames and almost all dome tents will use aluminum or fiberglass. If purchasing a cabin style tent, your probably limited to steel, which is good since these tents are usually larger and heavier. Dome style tents should be obtained with aluminum poles if possible, fiberglass poles are usually reserved for less expensive tents.
Additional Considerations:
A full coverage fly is essential for rain protection, roof vents for control of condensation and tube style floors for camping in rainy areas. Types of window screen is another import consideration, standard mesh will keep most insects out, but for complete protection, no-see-um mesh is essential. Everything else that may come into play are generally convenience items, storage pockets, room separators in cabin tents and vestibules for gear storage.
Choosing your new tent wisely will ensure years of use and enjoyment for you and your family.

Camp Tents- A Beginner’s Guide on Buying the Right One

When you talk of base camping you are going to camp on campgrounds that you no longer have to hike to be able to go there. This is the best place to spend quality time with your loved ones and kids since this is more convenient than camping to camp sites that are located in high mountains. They are too dangerous for the kids. However, going on this type of outdoor adventure would require camp tents. These tents will serve as your shelter for your entire stay on the site. If you are a first time camper, you would really have a hard time looking for the right tent since there are so many camp tents that are out in the market nowadays. They come in different brands, types, features and prices. If you do not have enough understanding on this gear, finding the right one will definitely become a headache. Family tents come in so many types and sizes. They also have to be in time for the season. There are tents that are for summer, spring or winter. It will depend on the weather on when you are going to use them. Normally, big families prefer to buy cabin tent since they are big enough to hold a standard family. Though it is a bit pricey compared to conventional types but you are guaranteed that everybody is comfortable inside. In fact they can hold from six to eight persons inside. So just try to imagine if there are 6 members in your family. The tent is big enough to hold everybody and you can still put some of your personal belongings inside. It is really hard to camp if your tent is too small for you. It would really be a nightmare for everyone when you sleep. Camp tents are said to be the most important gears when you go on camping. It is important that you bring along the right type so you will be comfortable at night when you sleep. Though you can compare it to how your house could give comfort but as much as possible tents should help you relax after the long day of hiking and walking. Remember you are staying away from your home, even if you can not see your bed you would still wish to sleep on a comfortable place. If there are kids with you, it is necessary that you make their stay as comfortable as possible. They are not used to this type of set up. But you would want them to experience another environment that would help them appreciate what nature has given them. So your camp tent must still give them the feeling of staying inside the house. Thus, cabin tent is the best type for your family to avoid getting crowded inside. Camping is really a fun and great experience for the family and friends. However, you have to make sure that you bring the right tools, gears and gadgets to make your stay comfortable and convenient. If you fail to do this, the trip will definitely become the most terrible experience of your life.

What Kind Of Tent Is Right For You?

To start off with camping out is going to be somewhat costly as you will need to purchase your tent, cookware, sleeping bags and other equipment. This can be especially expensive if you purchase large tents and high end camping gear. Once you’ve bought the main necessities you could add to your camping gear with time and although you will need to pay at the start for the standard camping gear, if it is well taken care of it will provide you with many years of good camping. You may get second-hand or more affordable brand new equipment if you use the internet and look for auction websites like eBay or outdoor camping gear sites that are always offering sales. A great suggestion is to buy your camping equipment out of season while stores are selling them off discounted. Tents are a must at all popular music festivals or any large gatherings and festival tents tend to be rather low-priced since many folks don’t choose to take high quality tents to the event – some even discard the tent at the conclusion of the event. One of the most well-known festival tents will be the pop up tent. They are typically smaller 2-3 man tents that are very light-weight and simple to erect. Pop up tents are also quite popular with hikers as if you have to transport your tent while hiking, then you need it being light and simple to set up. Canvas tents are considered by many people to be old-fashioned however with recent updates and designs the canvas tent has been brought bang up to date. The one thing regarding the canvas camping tent is the fact that it’ll significantly outlast present day tents. If you maintain and treat the canvas suitably you could get twenty to thirty years of service from the canvas tent. They are one of the most durable large tents you can buy. What number of modern-day fabric tents would you have purchased in this period? Canvas tents tend to be far more sturdy than the other type of tents and will endure much more punishment, that is why the military services rely on them. Cabin tents have consistently been very popular with families as they were the earliest style of tent to possess distinct chambers along with a living/dining space. The cabin tent is good for family vacation trips since every family member can have their own space. The cabin tent has a primary entrance which leads right into a living space which if necessary could also be used to sleep in, and is then sub-divided into separate areas with partitioning. Cabin tents are frequently a 6 person tent as a minimum but can go right up to 12-14 person tents to accommodate bigger families or groups. Among the best places to locate low-cost tents will be web sites such as eBay that offer both used and new tents plus all kinds of camping equipment. Additionally, there are many camping equipment web sites online that have tents for sale and you may compare all of the different styles of tents and selling prices to see which kind suits you and your wallet. You can also find tents for sale in retailers or in shopping malls. These suppliers will typically sell off tents at significantly reduced selling prices towards the end of the season to make room for additional stock and it might be well worth waiting for this to get bargains.

Best Family Tent – 3 Reasons Why A Family Cabin Tent Is The Better Option For Families With Children

Camping is fun, especially for children. It’s a great way of spending the summer holidays with your family. But sooner or later, tempers start running high within the limited space you have. You are longing for some time alone, the kids start fighting over anything. . . What to do? A family cabin tent with several rooms, of course, won’t solve all your problems. But it can make camping life easier.
Here are 3 reasons why a family cabin tent can help keeping the peace:
Everyone has his or her own space
It’s easier to keep your things separated
A minimum of privacy is ensured
Reason #1: In a family cabin tent, everyone has his or her own space No matter how social we are, we all want to be alone at times, and we need some space that is ours alone. Somewhere to put our things, somewhere we can always come to, somewhere we won’t be disturbed. Camping often neglects this need. A family cabin tent can provide everyone with this needed personal space. You can sleep when you want to, or simply take a “time out” when you don’t feel like people. Less “social crowd stress”, more peace.
Reason #2: It’s easier to keep your things separated when using a family cabin tent When you are all staying in one big tent, things will get mixed up over time. In a family cabin tent where each one has his own room, you can easily keep your things separated. Simply keep your personal stuff in your own room, like you would do at home. When there is less searching and accusing others to have misplaced certain things, you will have more peace and much less frustration. If you have an additional room, you can keep the things everyone is using in there so that all of you can access them easily.
Reason #3: A family cabin tent ensures a minimum of privacy We grown-ups want privacy, and teenagers want to have their secrets. They want to have secret chats with their friends, or have some things they don’t want you to see. Using a family cabin tent that allows each child his own room won’t be as private as home, but both parents and children can have some privacy at least.
A family cabin tent with several rooms can really do a great job in making camping with kids a more pleasant experience. It’s always a good idea to buy a bigger tent than you actually need. If you need a three room tent, get one with four rooms. Then you still have a spare room where you can spend time together when you can’t go out, without disturbing those who want to be alone.
