How to Select a New Tent For Your Camping Trip

Selection of a camping tent depends on several variables which should not be overlooked. There are tents made for different conditions, and tents made for different purposes. Knowing or at least predicting what conditions will occur during a camping trip will help keep you safe and comfortable. A tent can serve many purposes such as temporary shelter while camping or long term housing when hunting or on expeditions.
This handy list will show you what you need to consider when choosing your next tent.
What size tent do I need?
A tent that holds all your gear and all the of people that will occupy it is the right size for you. A quick and easy rule of thumb when selecting a tent size is to select a tent that is slightly larger than you think you need. If you will have 4 adults camping in one tent, choose one that is rated for 5 or 6 adults. This will ensure plenty of room for sleeping and gear storage.
Seasons:
Tents are rated in seasons, most common is the three season tent, good for spring, summer and fall. A four season tent, as its name implies, is rated for all seasons of the year.
Weight:
Your new tent should be easy for you to transport and assemble. Your ability to assemble and move the tent around could depend on fellow campers and the material your tent is made of. Canvas being the heaviest of tent materials and nylon being the lightest.
Assembly:
The easiest tents to assemble will incorporate what is commonly known as a Insta-frame. These tents will have the frame incorporated onto the tent. Insta-frame models can usually be setup in 2 – 4 minutes and are most often found on dome shaped tents. Standard frame tents require more time for setup, 10 – 15 minutes and at least two people to assemble.
Materials:
Nylon is the most commonly used material for a camping tent, lightweight and woven in a rip-stop weave, nylon has proven durability and shown to last for years. Cotton canvas is the second most popular fabric and has proven its durability for over 100 years.
Poles:
Fiberglass, aluminum and steel are the three main types of materials used in the frame system. Fiberglass is usually incorporated on lower cost tents or to keep larger tents affordable. Aluminum poles are strong and most commonly found on better quality tents. Steel poles are found on larger cabin style tents as the added weight needs a much stronger framing system.
Reliability:
Choosing a tent made with durable materials, strong poles and sewn with heavy duty threads will ensure lasting reliability.
Additional Considerations:
Your tent should incorporate a fly if camping in rainy conditions. Full coverage fly that reaches the ground for four season camping. A floor protector is a wise investment, some manufactures offer custom fit protectors. A heavy duty tarp can also be used as a tent floor protector. Window screen is another important consideration, standard mesh will keep most insects out, but for complete protection, no-see-um mesh is preferred.
Choosing your new tent wisely will ensure years of use and enjoyment for you and your family.

How to Choose the Right Tent for your Camping Trip
Now that the sun is shining it’s time to start thinking about that camping trip and the tent that is going to be perfect for what you need. Having the right camping equipment and the best tent will really make your camping trip. But how do you choose the best tent for you?
You should opt for the best quality tent that you can afford, whether your camping trip will be a weekend festival or a longer stay in a camping and caravan site. There are literally hundreds of tents available that range in shape and size and before you decide on the best tent for you decide on how much money you can afford to spend.
Tents have three kinds of classification;
·         Three season tents
·         Four season tents
·         All season tents
The three season tent range is suitable for most camping trips apart from when it is going to be cold, in this case a four season tent would be more suitable. All season tents are usually top of the range and are the most expensive tents.
If you are a festival goer then a festival pop up tent may be suitable. The best festival pop up tents can often be put up in a matter of seconds and as they aren’t complicated to set up are suited to the casual camper. Pop up tents are also suited to back packers and as they are quite small, usually sleeping up to three people, they are light weight and easy to pack away ready to move on to the next camp site.
For a longer camping trip or a family camping trip you may have to go for a bigger tent than for the number of people to sleep in it. For example, if you go for a four man tent for a family camping trip for four there will be limited storage so a six man tent may be an option to consider. If you have a multi room tent then there will be space for storage and some privacy for changing etc.
When you buy a tent it should come with a ground sheet and hopefully be rain proof and if it has a mini entrance hall that’s great for leaving wet clothing and shoes as there’s nothing worse than a damp or wet inside of a tent.
The best tents can be purchased online or in a local camping shop and once you have decided what sort of tent you need, how much you can spend on your tent it’s time to do research about the best place to buy your tent.

Weather Based Camping TentsApart from the classification of the camping tents into family camping tents, solo camping tents, couple camping tents and the likes, they are also categorized on the basis of the time of the year in which they are utilized. • Minimalist Tents : These tents are the lightest in weights and can be used if you plan to camp in good weather conditions. These camping tents will also protect you from bugs and rain. • 3 Season Tents : These would be a good option accessible, if you are planning your trip during the seasons of spring, summer and fall. These are the most versatile. Along with offering safety from bugs, wind and rain, they are fairly light-weight and are good for ventilation. The majority of the two-man tents are 3-season tents. • 4 Season Tents : The four season camping tents are especially designed for severe weather conditions like snow, heavy winds. They extend safeguard against harsh weather as, extra poles support the tent structure, rounded shape prevents snow buildup and are heavier in weight as compared to others. • All Season Tents : They are also known as four- season convertible tents as they can be easily transformed into three-season tents by removing a pole or roof-panel. They can be used the whole year round. The family camping tents are typically all-season camping tents. Some Basic RequirementsThere are some other things to be considered while buying weather based camping tents:• Easy set-up : The camping tents, you buy, should be practically easy to set up, so that, you can without difficulty assemble them, even when it starts raining or while it gets dark. A-frame tents and dome tents are usually simple to set up. • Ventilation : Adequate ventilation is necessary in a camping tent. The mesh screens can keep out the bugs as well as the debris if it is windy.
